What are your favorite shows of all time?

In considering next week's theme of genre (and also because I have been curious about this since we're all TV watchers!), I was wondering what scripted TV shows you have enjoyed over time??

I'll list my tops. I'm heavily serialized.

- Veronica Mars
- Homeland
- The Wire
- Breaking Bad
- Orange is The New Black
- Smallville (Yes I watched every single season)
- Sex and the City
- Entourage
- Girls
- The OC til season 3.
- Lost season 1.

(cringeworthy) Honorable mention: Dawson's Creek.

How about you???

  1. Hi Lauren,

I love that Veronica Mars is one of your tops! I think the show is a great example of a kind of serial program that stands as another example of influences of the soap opera found throughout primetime with its love triangles, dramatic flashbacks, and so forth.

I also think that Veronica Mars is a great example that we could apply to our discussion a few weeks back regarding audiences and the productivity of online fans. It is mind boggling that this show has such a devout fan following 8 years later. The 2014 Kickstarter campaign for the Veronica Mars movie had over 91,000 backers that pledged over $5,000,000 and successfully got the film off the ground. All to see- will she end up with Logan or not?! On top of that, we now have the V-Mar’s related project, Play It Again, Dick, playing online. Talk about convergence!

    Team Marshmallow!

  3. -Frasier
    -Friends
    -The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
-Grey's Anatomy (before Katherine Heigl went nuts/before the writer's strike when NOTHING happened for an entire season...though I admit I still watch every single week...I'm die hard until the end)
    -Sex and the City
-Smallville (before they graduated from high school and things got weird)
-Phil of the Future (Don't judge me lol!)

My New Favorites (that I pray and hope will continue to be awesome are:)
    -Jane the Virgin
    -Hindsight

**Disclaimer: I was not allowed to watch a lot of TV as a child/teenager and I did not get cable until I went to college and so I missed a lot of stuff (and I also watch an insane amount of reality tv [to my shame])

  4. Here are my tops in no particular order.

Ally McBeal, The Practice, Felicity (who am I kidding, this is probably my number 1), Scandal (earlier seasons), Grey's Anatomy (earlier seasons), The Office (up to Season 4), Game of Thrones, A Different World, The Golden Girls

Typing this list now, I am amazed at how many of my favorite TV shows are actually non-scripted. Interesting exercise!
