I went to a Bachelor season finale party last night! Even though it was quite obvious that the 2-hour event was constructed to please the fans (like myself), the found the whole viewing experience was woefully underwhelming. In keeping with tradition, the finale was nicely situated within a “live” viewing with Chris Harrison and other fans. It was evident that Harrison labored to keep the audience engaged; he continually insinuated that “we” were about to witness something that had NEVER occurred on the Bachelor before. His hook worked, because I watched attentively for 2-hours and eagerly awaited a departure… but nothing out of the ordinary transpired! The last rejected contestant didn’t wail in self-pity, but other than that the episode was fairly standard. In the hours after Chris’ proposal, I scrolled Facebook to gauge how American was responding to the monumental event, but I didn’t see a single status mentioning The Bachelor. Although I was only surveying my 998 close Facebook friends, I was happy to see that other topics and current events were trending instead.
